EYFS

At Crumpsall Lane Primary school we have a Nursery and two Reception classes which are known as The Early Years Foundation Stage.  They have their own special curriculum - The EYFS Framework.  The EYFS Framework explains how and what your child will be learning to support their healthy development.  A link to the EYFS Framework is at the bottom of this page.

Your child will be learning skills, acquiring new knowledge and demonstrating their understanding through 7 areas of learning and development.

These 7 areas are used to plan your child’s learning and activities. The professionals teaching and supporting your child will make sure that the activities are suited to your child’s unique needs. Children in the EYFS learn by playing and exploring, being active, and through creative and critical thinking which takes place both indoors and outside.

Children should mostly develop the 3 prime areas first. These are:

  • Communication and language;
  • Physical development; and
  • Personal, social and emotional development.

These prime areas are those most essential for your child’s healthy development and future learning.

How do we do this? We interact and play with your child; we model skills and support them with the next steps in their development.  We develop good communication by listening to them, responding appropriately and extending their language.

As children grow, the prime areas will help them to develop skills in 4 specific areas.

These are:

  • Literacy;
  • Mathematics;
  • Understanding the world; and
  • Expressive arts and design.

How do we do this? Depending on your child’s unique needs we will deliver whole-class, small group and individual sessions.  These sessions will include sharing stories and talking about books, making marks and using phonic knowledge to write, using number and shape, space and measures.  We will provide your child with access to a range of resources that will encourage them to play, think and create.

Where can I go for further information?

The most important place to find out more is your child’s class teacher do ask as many questions as you need to. The class teacher's really do welcome speaking with you. Please join us for Early Work which is daily from 8:40-8:55.
