Also, Mrs Kendall would like to know why the penguins stick their wings (flippers) out when they walk. Can you find out why and comment on the blog? Today's name challenge for literacy Nursery, today’s task is to think about your name. Can you find items in your house that start with the sound at the start of your name? So my name is Mrs Subachus, I can find scissors, soap, salt and sauce. What can you find? Counting challenge Count to 10 Counting on. Start at 2 stop at 8 Start at 3 stop at 9 Start at 4 stop at 10 Can you count backwards? 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 You should practice counting forwards and backwards every day. You can use your fingers to help you. Why don’t you try and make numeral cards to 5. You can then practise putting them in order from 1 to 5. Have a look at mine. What you’ll need: A box Scissors Pen/pencil I’ve used an old lasagne box. Cut them out into rectangles. You may need to ask for help here. Look at my box. Can you notice any numerals? What numerals do you recognise? Once you’ve learnt how to order from 1-5, you can keep adding the next numeral until you reach 10! Hmmmm. What comes after 5?

Happy Wednesday everyone, did you know today is the start of a new month? Today is Wednesday 1st April and it is April fool's day, so today there is no work. Just kidding! So click here to join him at 10am and find out how to make your own rainbow at home. You will need a bag of colourful sweets like Skittles, M&M's or Smarties, also a deep saucer/plate, two cups of water (warm and cold). There will be a worksheet available on his site for you to try to complete with a grown up. Literacy challenge Yesterday we asked you to think about your favourite book and see if you could think of some rhyming words. Today can you draw a character from your favourite book? Can you tell an adult what sound the character starts with? For example my favourite book is Shark in the Park, I could draw Timothy Pope. Timothy’s name starts with the sound “t,t,t,t” Can you think of any other words that start with that sound? I can think of “t, television, telephone, ticket, tea.” Have a look around your house if you can’t think of anything. If you want to listen to Shark in the Park again and try some different activities follow the link and it will take you to some more things to try. Maths pattern challenge Today we are going to make different patterns - why don't we start it with a dance. Good morning children ! Your challenge this week is to play 'I spy' with your family. Playing this game will help strengthen your vocabulary, memory , attention and listening skills. There are two activities to play. 1st Activity 1. Look at the picture and tell your grown up all the things that you can see! Try to name 10 objects. 2. Listen and point.
Your grown up is going to say the following 'I spy' sentences. Listen very carefully to the 'special words' (clues) in the sentences. " I spy with my little eye something that is ... red, round, big, heavy, soft" "I spy with my little eye something I can... play with, wear, sleep in, watch, read" " I spy with my little eye something that is a ... toy, furniture, wooden" 2nd Activity Play 'I spy' around your house. Try to use special words (clues) that describe an object, tells you what an object can do and what group the object belongs to. Remember to take turns and have fun! These exercises will make the muscles around your mouth and face much stronger and help you to say your words clearly. You need a mirror so that you can watch yourself doing the exercises. Try to do each exercise 3 times. Try to hold that movement for 5 seconds. Have fun!

Inside the box you can get a grown up to help you to write your family members names. Also in the box you could write down your favourite television programme, film, song, food. Why did you choose those items? Why did you pick a certain song? Once your capsule (box) is complete, you can seal it and place it somewhere safe.
