L.O. Can I use effective verb choices? Who can remember the different word types we looked at last week? Verbs, nouns and adjectives! A verb is a word used to describe an action. A noun is a word for the name of something (a person, place or thing). An adjective is a word used to describe a noun. Look at the pages of the text in the book. Highlight words that you think are effective. The word ........... is effective because............. Try and find different examples of verbs (doing/action words). Walk is a verb. How many verbs can we think of that are better than walk? What different verbs did you find in the text? Can you use a thesaurus to find better words for these verbs? Use the link below for an online thesaurus. Type in your verb to find another word for your verb. https://www.collinsdictionary.com/dictionary/english-thesaurus Choose three of your favourite verbs and use them to write sentences. Underline the verb in each sentence. E.g. My verb is 'run' Words in the thesaurus for 'run' e.g. race Example sentence I raced to the shop! Yesterday, you predicted what you think 'The Gingerbread Star' by Anne Fine is about. You also had to clarify any words you were unsure of. Today, we are going to focus on the questioning and summarising parts of our reciprocal reading. Questioning 1. Where did the little, grey worm live? (retrieval) 2. How does Hetty feel about not being a glow worm? (inference) Can you write one of your own questions? Summarising Can you write a short summary of what you have read? Remember, a summary is just the main points. ![]()
