On Monday, I asked you to write a persuasive advert to sell a toy robot, Bugatti or a pet. Now, I would really like to see your work (which should have been edited) so I can show the rest of the school and the world what you have been up to! After I have looked at them, I want to post a couple of really good examples of persuasive adverts on the blog. I have already seen adverts submitted by Hamzah and Humayra. Thank you guys! Please send the adverts to: [email protected]

How is everyone on this beautiful day? Does anybody know what the word “gratitude” means? If you don’t know, look the word up. Then think of ten things that you can be grateful for today. These are the learning activities we want you to complete today in addition to English and Maths: 1. The Joe Wicks work out which will be shown on his you tube channel. The work out starts at 9am and lasts for 30 minutes. Click on this link to take part in his work out:https://www.youtube.com/user/thebodycoach1 2. From 9.30 – 10.00 am, we want you to practice your spellings. The spelling lists were uploaded on a blog post dated 20/3/20. We suggest that you practise ten spellings each day (start on step 5). Remember to use the ‘Look, say, cover, write, check’ method to remember the spellings. 3. From 10.00 – 10.15 am, Dr Chipindall will doing live teaching of computing, science or engineering. Go to the following blog page to take part in this learning:https://drchips.weebly.com/ 4. Straight after lunch, we want you to read for half an hour. Read your book or online text to an experienced reader (this could be your mum, dad, carer, brother, sister or any other relative). While you are reading, ask the person who is listening to you read to ask you questions about the book/text. We uploaded reading questions in a blog post yesterday. As always, if you have any questions about the learning activities then please email your teacher at: [email protected] (for Mr Ahmed-Swift) [email protected] (for Mr Tait) This afternoon, check that you have completed the afternoon activities we have set you on previous days. The activities that have been previously set include P4C and geography. Enjoy your learning and if you get the chance, get outside in your garden/balcony (if you have one!) to enjoy the sun.
Hello Year 5 children, Today, we want you to revise ‘cohesive devices’ that we use in our writing. The term 'cohesive devices' refers to the conjunctions, adverbs and pronouns used to link parts of a piece of writing. Using the same verb tense throughout a text also offers 'cohesion'. Cohesive devices improve your writing and help it flow. This piece of writing shows how cohesive devices can be used: The time conjunctions in red (first, then, later, after, finally) are used to show that this is a process that has several steps and an end goal. These words are also adverbs, because they tell us when something is done. Pronouns in blue (these to refer to the organs and it to refer to the body) are used to show that the writer is referring back to a person or object already named. Conjunctions in green (and, so, because) are used within sentences to link ideas within a sentence. Check out the Oxford Owl video on this link, which further explains cohesive devices: https://www.theschoolrun.com/what-are-cohesion-and-cohesive-devices-in-writing For your english work this morning, I would like you to identify any cohesive devices you used in your persuasive advert you wrote a couple of days ago. Please have a look at the attached text to show how I have highlighted cohesive devices in my persuasive advert to sell a Bugatti. Don’t worry if you don’t have any colours to highlight the cohesive devices. Use a pencil instead. If you haven’t identified any cohesive devices in your writing, then please identify any that you need to include to make your writing flow better. Thank you.
Hello year 5 children,
When you are adding a comment to this blog, make sure you are only using your first name only. Do not use your first name and surname together. We won't be able to publish your comments if you use your first name and surname together. This is so you keep your identity private and safe. Ibraheem, it was great to hear from you but I was not able to show your comment because you included your surname. However, I'm so pleased you enjoyed writing a persuasive advert about a Bugatti! Thanks Did you enjoy yesterday's challenge? Here's part 2 of the "Decimals as fractions" lesson: https://wrm-13b48.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/homelearning/year-5/Y5-Spring-Block-3-WO3-Decimals-as-fractions-2-2019.pdf There's a helpful tutorial here: https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-5/ Answers are here: https://wrm-13b48.kxcdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/homelearning/year-5/Y5-Spring-Block-3-ANS3-Decimals-as-fractions-2-2019.pdf I have uploaded a timetable for you to follow each day. By following a timetable, it will give your day structure and routine, which is really important during times like this.
Good morning children!
It is another lovely, sunny day and we hope everyone continues to be safe and well. To start, I want to share an inspiring thought of the day which seemed a good antidote to what we are all currently going through: “You’re braver than you believe and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” – Christopher Robin These are the learning activities we want you to complete today in addition to english and maths: 1. The Joe Wicks’ work out which will be shown on his you tube channel. We suggest that you practise ten spellings each day (start on step 5a). Remember to use the ‘Look, say, cover, write, check’ method to remember the spellings. 3. From 10.00 – 10.15 am, Dr Chipindall will doing ‘live’ teaching of computing, science or engineering. Go to the following blog page to take part in this learning:https://drchips.weebly.com/ 4. Straight after lunch, we want you to do some reading for half an hour. Hi guys,
Hope you are all doing very well. I'd like you to create a poster! You can do this one on Friday afternoon. You'll have to open the file and print it off if you can. If not, use some of your own paper and draw the box . Let me know if you have any problems. Also, let me know that you've done the activity. Take care Mr Roberts |
